I tweeted an article earlier about how  autism is most likely related to chemicals within our environment. Science has yet to pinpoint the direct cause of autism which is running rampant across western civilization and especially in America. I think a part of the epidemic is better measures for diagnosing autism which can cause a spike in documented cases. In the last 10 years  early detection and school programs have improved tremendously.

Still, I can recall this being a concern 12 years ago when my wife and I had our 2nd son.  At that time the concern was the heavy doses of vaccinations that doctors injected our babies with. Even without the mercury preservative, our concerns were voiced and we actually stretched our sons vaccinations over 3 years instead of 18 months.

When an article references chemicals in our environment it is hard to not overlook our food source. Fast Food, frozen food, processed items and even pesticides on our fruits and vegetables is a common occurrence. Unless you are buying all organic foods and items, you are ingesting chemicals that can cause a host of problems later in life – let alone the brain development of an infant.

It is kind of scary and it really makes you think about what you are actually putting in your body. For those of you that are going to eat fast food this weekend – think twice!!!
