God lives in the Present Moment?

Let’s read this thought-provoking quote from one of the great modern philosophical minds:

“Through the present moment, you have access to the power of life itself, that which has traditionally been called “God.” As soon as you turn away from it, God ceases to be a reality in your life, and all you are left with is the mental concept of God, which some people believe in and others deny. Even belief in God is only a poor substitute for the living reality of God manifesting every moment of your life.”

Eckhart Tolle

To begin, I guess you first have to define what God is to you… I am not a big proponent of allowing others to define God for me or for society. History has shown in excruciating detail that has failed in many facets. There are many definitions of God; in fact the word God has been so overused, misinterpreted and manipulated that you almost have to toss the word out and redefine it for yourself without the dogma of organized religion and old parables. You need to wipe the slate clean and  look inward and outward for what God represents to you as a life source, an energy and the connection we all bear. In doing that you need to also include yourself as part of that equation. God is not an old definition; in fact God is a boundless energy of instinctual consciousness, light, quantum dynamism and vibration that connects the Cosmos as one breathing, pulsing organism; a definition that continually redefines itself .  It seems over the course of religious history, few people take the time or even have the open mind and ability to define God without attaching dogma to the idea. And many in this modern world argue and battle for these defined concepts of God that have little bearing on the true reality of spirituality and our place in this Universe.  It’s almost insanity at its finest example and yet it is the norm we all live with. As Tolle suggests, such blind dogmatic exploits are a “poor substitute for the living reality of God”.  I would agree, blind faith is in itself a poor representation of what is truly godly and spiritual. And that divine notion cannot be found solely in a church or in a book; or from the mouth of a holy man. This energy, wisdom and celestial instinct is found within the silence of your thoughts. Only you alone can find the true definition of God. Yes, that puts a burden on the individual and goes against common religious practices; aligning more with eastern faiths.

Eckart Tolle is famous for his book the “Power of Now” which discusses the power and energy that exists by rooting your mind in the present moment. As I have written, the past is riddled with dogma, guilt and things in life that you can’t change. And yet, more than half of our thoughts within a given day are anchored in the past. Our thoughts of the future are typically riddled with fear and fantasy – all ego driven maladies. The only true moment is the “Power of Now”… That instant moment when you are experiencing this exact split second: Gone is the ego, the past and future; only you and the Universe with expanding horizons to infinity. The key is to live in the present moment. Meditation and immersing yourself in nature are paths to the present moment. There lies the essence of your True Nature and there lies the true power of God that exists as the totality of the Cosmos.

As Tolle interjects: As soon as you turn from the present moment, “God ceases to be a reality in your life”. All that is left is the mental imagery that is now rooted in the past or future; laden with dogma and all the perils of societal immersion, religious ideology and the wars fought over them. There is nothing pure about dogma, fear, guilt and ego – and yet that is exactly what most organized religions market subliminally. Can you find God through organized religion? Maybe, but it will always carry with it the dogmatic trappings of a cloudy history wrought with money, war, power and absolutism. It can never be pure, unadulterated and just about you and only you. When you look into the mirror and see that you are the hand of god, then it is about you and only you. When the ego remains out of such revelations, what you are left with is a pure connection to the concept of God. Nothing is more empowering…

So, once you achieve that higher level of spiritual clarity and awareness you begin to realize this thing called God is bigger than just man-made religion. It is bigger than you and I. It is bigger than a book of parables or a mega church on a Sunday morning. Its bigger than Earth. It is everything within this Responsive Universe and living more in the present moment and less in the past and future is a path to connecting to the true essence of God – your True Nature within.

So you had a spiritual breakthrough? …an epiphany? Maybe you read an enlightening book and it has changed your perspective (hopefully it was mine – LOL). Maybe you read a bunch of books… You feel your space, clarity and insight growing… your vibration and glow expanding? Excellent! Self-discovery and spiritual evolution is the goal in a Responsive Universe…

Do you feel compelled to tell everyone you meditated today? Is your new found wisdom splashed all over Facebook and Twitter 24/7? Do you stop random people and tell them you can see their aura or energy? Are you voicing your new opinions to those around you as if you have been a master teacher your entire life? Do you feel more powerful and self-actualized than others with your new found energy? Do you feel sorry for those easily led by blind faith?

Easy there eager beaver!

…your new found self-discovery is creating a new ego from the one you just got rid of!!!!

what?

As we step into self-discovery and sun bathe in the first light shards of enlightenment it is easy to become intoxicated with this new found energy. Congratulations, you are on the path to Self-Actualization!

IT’S A TRAP!

what?

yep, that’s right…. In order to find this new self-discovery and enlightenment, you had to surrender at least a portion of your false-self or ego to connect more with your True Nature. The trap is that it is easy to fall into a more complex ego born from your new found vision. It is easy to step up on your soap box and preach this new age gospel. Beware, it is unbecoming… People do not want to hear it… Silence is the best wisdom… In fact, living by example is the best teacher… If you feel the need to tell people you meditated today or that you are vibrating at a higher level – or their religion is wrong;  that is your ego talking… not your True Nature…

Say less… Do more….

Don’t judge….

Be compassionate….

Sometimes silence is the best wisdom….

Hey, I have to self-check myself all the time – especially with family. It’s part of the journey and when you are mindful of your energy and place with this Universe and do not let it synthesize more ego – well, you just jumped to a new level in self-discovery and enlightenment….

And yes, this blog post is my friendly reminder….

more on Ego     ….more on True Nature   …more on what the Responsive Universe is…

A  Facebook friend, Elaine Matthews, posted this very simple yet profound quote in her news feed recently. I just love the quote: ” Do not be afraid of your own darkness. Do not be blinded by your own light…”. What does that mean? I know what it means for me…

“Do not be afraid of your own darkness” – We all have pasts – some more torturous than others. We have all faced loss, defeat and yes, sometimes we are our worst enemies. The ego functions of the mind; born from the past and subliminal hard wire thoughts and behaviors; act as the point of intent for many of us. The ego is rooted in fear, anger, guilt, narcissism and a false sense of self-worth – whether positive or negative… Like looking in a mirror, that reflection; like the ego is a fabricated image of ourselves. Like storm clouds the ego can obscure the illumination that is intrinsic to our being. Deep down bubbles our True Nature – this unadulterated and unfettered true-self free from the constraints of societal immersion. For some the darkness is suffering and loss. Experience has shown that deep within the darkness wells lights – It is almost as though we need darkness to raise the vibration of our awareness and clarity. We all have darkness but having faith that light will find its way through the cracks in the walls of false-self, loss and suffering is key to self-discovery and betterment. Further, knowing when to accept the fruits of our labor and suffering is paramount. Do not fear the darkness for within its shadow lies a gift…

“Do not be blinded by your own light” – There lies the fine line between self-discovery and social evolution and the ability to not be sucked back into the ego abyss. It is a paradox of sorts: Through self-discovery the trap is growing another ego from your new found vision and power. Those mindful enough to see the light; to understand that we are just energy changing form – the power of god sitting within the palm of our hands; a spacious connection to this grand Responsive Universe: Well it is easy to let such understanding and power unknowingly rebuild the ego you just reigned in. In times of challenge, sometimes silence is the best wisdom. The lesson in mindfulness is to continually self-check our intent to ensure our actions and reactions remain rooted in True Nature and not False-Self. As illumination warms our face, we want to share this new insight with others but as I have found with excruciating detail; the best teachers lead by actions and not words – a lesson I continually need to remind myself daily. It is easy to become blinded by the light of self-discovery. The art of life is to let the light illuminate your path forward while leading others without dogmatic trappings.

The balance of Light and Darkness is not about opposites but the circle of energy that binds them as one: A Mandala… Both light and darkness exist together – the key is finding the balance between the two facets of human nature. Maybe that is why the hour before sunset is my favorite time of day…

Happy New Years!

New Years is by far my favorite holiday of the year… It is the finale of the American holiday “hat trick”. You find Autumn and then the Thanksgiving Holiday: For me Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we have and not what we don’t have… I am always thankful for health, family and my career. Christmas comes and with it comes this watered down message wrought with commercialism. Christians say Christmas has been stolen. I am more pagan in nature and jokingly accuse the Christians of stealing Christmas from its true roots – Winter Solstice Paganism. For me, Christmas is about illumination, love and wisdom and the gift of giving – something we should celebrate every day.

So what about New Years? … the finale of the Holiday Trifecta…. New Years: Out with the old and in with the new! It’s kind of a rebirth of sorts. When you take into consideration the Mandala of Life you find we are not part of a story that begins and ends; but a revolving journey of birth, death and rebirth. Take the seasons for example: From Summer comes the colors of Autumn and then the sleep of Winter followed by the rebirth of Spring and so begins our journey yet again. The hands of a clock rotate, storms rotate, planets rotate, galaxies rotate…. So, New Years is a time of rebirth… Not a beginning or ending but a time to reflect on the journey. Here you are in the present moment with the past behind us and the future ahead of us – and no attachments to any of it!

newyears

It allows us to pause… to look at each year in review and learn from our mistakes. After all, life is a  learning experience and our failures and shortcomings should be triggers for mindfulness and not negative setbacks. New Years is a time to start fresh… a metaphorical clean slate wiped free of attachments and dogma… and so the journey continues!

I am not a big fan of resolutions – they tend to set us up to failure. Still, New Years is a time to put into place more mindfulness, space and clarity for life’s newest journeys. The goal is to be happier right? Below are some very easy steps to finding more happiness in the New Year:

Live with an Open Mind: Living with an open mind allows us to question what has been presented to us when we were young and impressionable. It allows us to challenge old ideals and control patterns to better evaluate our belief systems to confirm that they were not founded due to negative outside influences. It opens us up to understanding True Nature as a pure and unwavering source of happiness. We have the sovereign power to embrace our own thoughts and convictions. Living with an open mind, being receptive to change, and having a willingness to work for it are the first steps toward liberation.

Meditation: We make space and open ourselves up to the infinite vision of True Nature through devices like meditation and daily life practice. The devices show us that under all the ego and co-dependency that seems like reality, there is a constant, unwavering force we can all depend on that is as spacious as it is endless. Allowing spaciousness to enter our minds and lives gives us the ability to face all of life’s challenges and make good decisions. The brain may seem small physically, but the mind is vast. If we connect to this space, gone will be stress and anxiety. We will have infinite space for clarity and truth. Incorporate meditation into your daily life and you will see a different world reveal itself to you—a “True Reality” beyond ego and false-self.

Moderation: By living healthy lives, eating well, and exercising, we create immediate positive results. Love for life and love for others reinforces positive physical and mental health. Living in moderation equips us with the ability to be aware of our bad habits and get into routines of healthy living. Moderation means we understand our needs versus just our wants and desires.

Positive Energy: The laws of karma govern positive and negative effects in our environment. Positive reactions are the common denominator of our Universe. Becoming open to the positive energy in nature, beauty, and love is crucial to self-evolution. Focusing on positivity creates waves of joy and healing which will ultimately pulse through our thoughts and actions to build a better life.

Happy New Year!

universeIf you are new to this blog – then welcome! If you have been following the Responsive Universe for some time then you understand the premise of this “conscious Cosmos” we all live in: Every action and reaction is connected at the subatomic level. That includes your actions and mine as well.  In a Responsive Universe every thought, feeling and memory is linked to this tapestry that is our existence. Our energy is always changing and it can’t be destroyed; the power of God sits at our finger tips; the breath of mindfulness and clarity our compass; nature and silence our temple…

The premise of the Responsive Universe isn’t cult ideology or fringe science. This isn’t dogma or blind faith. Everything tangible and intangible is connected through waves and particles of energy. We are energy, our thoughts are energy and so are the words in this blog.  Quantum Physics and other related sciences shed light on these truths. One can interpret them as gifts and use such offerings to their benefit.  Others settle for archaic religious doctrine that tends to smother our spirit instead of rekindling it. Modern religion is but a snap shot of the bigger picture – Science, the power of God, you and I – we are all part of this immense puzzle that is the Responsive Universe. In short, we are the creator of our own destiny.  This tends to be an unnerving thought for many – especially those of religious faith. Wait, what? No omnipresent ruler in the form of man? Once you take the ego, dogma,  fear and mental conditioning out of the story of human spirituality you are left with two things mostly – you and this vast and beautiful Responsive Universe – a realm where our conscious energy interweaves into the fabric of the Cosmos – where anything is possible with the right mindfulness and energy…

I think we have all heard the old saying – practice what you preach… Well, I am certainly not a preacher and though I practice meditation and mindfulness, I am not perfect and never will be. I am fallible and malleable.  I make mistakes and I will continue to do so. It is not a perfect process but from our screw ups and the bad days that sometimes follow comes an education and wisdom. I have been applying this wisdom to my life for over 15 years. To be free from the constraints of ego and mediocrity we have to find a level of mindfulness and clarity that allows us to see past our own influences: Our parents, teachers, politics, the approval of others, materialistic addiction and even religion – discarding what only feeds our ego and this self-inflicted suffering we continue to subjugate ourselves to.  We need to strive for the things that make us whole with the goal of elevating this mindfulness; this vibration to a higher level. That is the goal of Self-Actualization.

Imagine if every thought mattered… Imagine all the thoughts that float and sometimes careen through your head. Have you ever stopped what you are doing to simply observe the mind and its facilities? The thoughts are endless aren’t they? Even when we sleep our brain is active, replaying old tapes and twisting our fears and desires into picture shows on our eyelids. What if you could control these thoughts? We are our own master right? What about negative thoughts? In a Responsive Universe what you think you project. Imagine the mind as a blank movie screen – you alone are the director; this is your movie; your story of life. What we project on this movie screen will also project out into the world. Quantum Physics explains with painstaking detail that our thoughts and energy react with the smallest features of the subatomic world – we are creating the fabric of the Universe – we are creating our own destiny. We are the hand of God… You are part of the equation; the definition of God and Universe. We are the creators of energy through thoughts and actions. Therefore it makes perfect sense to project positive thoughts and images on that movie screen. Positive thoughts and energy create positive actions. Positive actions will eventually return as positive reactions in a revolving Universe of cause and effect. You alone have the ability to create wealth, love and bliss in your life. You are the director of your life’s story and science now proves the connection to your thoughts and energy and how they affect your surroundings. Think about that… every time a negative thought enters your mind – imagine turning that thought around; taking the ego out of the equation and making something negative into something positive. The first step is simply being mindful of our thoughts and how they could be affecting our wellness. The next step is to begin making lasting changes to your thought process. The more positive energy you create the more positive your life will become. Such positive actions will come full circle with good karma; with your dreams being fully achieved. If you are going to have faith in something – have faith in the notion that you are your own creator – you are God in its many forms… That is not ego, that is True Nature

You are the director of your movie – your story of life. Why not write a feel good movie with a great ending? You never know, there could be a sequel

mandalaIs it suffering and tremendous emotional pain that unknowingly thrusts those solemn few on to the path that is the Heroes Journey? What is it that motivates us to follow our Bliss? When you look at the world that surrounds us, I suspect the Heroes Journey is a gift that everyone receives; but few disembark on… I could be wrong, but I would imagine it takes some cultivated levels of mindfulness and awareness to see the signs; to walk the hero’s path; to accept the gifts of this Responsive Universe. The Hero’s Journey for me was acknowledging and then confronting my ego facilities; thus connecting to this sublime notion of True Nature… But my journey did not begin there… An abusive childhood may have been the beginning point. Low self-esteem, Attention Deficit Disorder, addiction and most definitely the bludgeoning defeat that brought my suffering full circle: The late-term, still-born loss of my first-born and namesake – truly a devastating day and a defining time in my life that saw me reach rock bottom both inward and outward. It seems as we age and mature our soul becomes calloused by the layers of ego and societal immersion. We tend to be defined by society and by our successes and failures. The cold, stark walls of that hospital continue to be a grim reminder of that awful day I lost my boy. And yet while holding my lifeless child in my arms that fateful day; it may have been that moment that I unknowingly began my own Hero’s Journey.

I recall a quote from Joseph Campbell: ““We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us.” Ironically for me, surrendering to life instead of fighting against it became the veering path I eventually chose. It was several months later that something unique happened that changed my life forever. After the loss of my son and after weeks of depression, sadness and self-loathing, the sun came out and showered me with the warmth of wisdom and spiritual illumination; a stark difference to the wintery, cold grip that previously enveloped my life. The sky looked bluer, the clouds seemed whiter. The trees and plants all seemed brighter and more colorful. My thoughts were clear and concise; my mind boundless; my challenges and suffering palatable. It was if I had poor vision all my life and suddenly began to see clearly for the first time. I experienced an awakening – I stumbled upon the concept of awareness and space and how it related to me, my life and surroundings, my hardships and my place within this Universe – my intrinsic connection to this Universe. This source of empowerment was not of religious origin. I knew immediate it was a much bigger picture: A vast boundless world of energy, vibration, love, wisdom and connection. In fact, religious dogma began to look very weighted and dogmatic. Thus began the process of deconstructing my belief systems and living life with an open mind.  My Hero’s Journey evolved as I allowed more space, clarity and responsiveness into my life. I no longer blamed myself for the loss of my son. I no longer blamed God or the Universe. I redefined God and the Universe…. I no longer blindly demanded answers for life’s mediocrity. For a brief moment, I saw myself connected to every atom in the Universe – a part of something so vast and immense it boggled the imagination. My fear dissolved and an illuminated path revealed itself to me. It was my True Nature… The concept of True Nature is the intrinsic, immortal potential for reaching enlightenment that exists within the mind of every sentient being. Its source and energy are born from the Cosmos. True Nature is your transcendent link to the Universe. It is everything that exists and when you consider everything that exists you must consider yourself part of that equation; connected and purposeful.

I discovered that True Nature is the opposite of ego. True Nature is everything left behind when you are egoless. Imagine stripping away negativity, evil, fear, guilt narcissism and jealousy (all ego facilities) – what are you left with? Only love, wisdom and positive energy – the heartbeat of existence. Mythologist Joseph Campbell once said, “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls”. Following my bliss involved accentuating mindfulness and self-discovery. Through meditation and daily life practice I became acutely aware of my ego and what reinforced its maligned energy on my actions and reactions. Through synchronicity and awareness, I began looking for the signs and genuine thoughts and epiphanies that shifted my mainstream perceptions away from the majority. There is a price to pay to society while on this Hero’s Journey – I have found that as I walk uphill most people that surround me are walking downhill. Yet, there is an acute awareness that my path is noble and genuine. By centering myself in the moment, I took the necessary steps to act and react with unadulterated empowerment.

My Hero’s Journey is not always a perfect sunset. Life can be messy. I will make mistakes and from failure will come triumph and wisdom. The key to this journey is always stepping forward and never backward. No matter how small the step, I will continue my Hero’s Journey with karma, clarity and my center of being aligned as best as possible with my True Nature. I have confidence the Responsive Universe will take care of the rest….

Night and day… White and black… Life and death….    …So many polar opposites in life and yet one of the most all encompassing comparisons lies within your mind and mental functions: Ego versus True Nature…

What is the Ego? The Ego is your false-self; forged from societal immersion.  It is true; we were not born with an ego. Through our struggles, triumphs and challenges the ego builds its layers of invisible hard-wired behaviors, many times unknowingly.  The ego thrives on the ideals, beliefs, and laws of society and how we perceive ourselves within this society. These ideals color our perception of the world and of life. Our egos become the governing force from which we base our daily actions. The latter force of empowerment creates a false-self that, if unchecked, will foster negative self-esteem. Further, the ego can build this false confidence; though strong and seemingly indestructible, when the fleeting things that build your ego leave, fail or disappear (like money, friends and self-esteem) the walls the ego once built can come crashing down.

True Nature is the opposite of ego. True Nature is everything left behind when you are egoless. Imagine stripping away negativity, evil, fear, guilt narcissism and jealousy (all ego facilities)– what are you left with? Only love, wisdom and positive energy – the heartbeat of existence. The source and energy of our True Nature is born from the Cosmos. Within the Cosmos, quantum mechanics suggests that the behavior of matter and energy is interconnected and that the effect of the observer on the physical system being observed must be considered part of that system. Further, this connection with humans and the Universe explains why Karma and an afterlife are possible. From a scientific standpoint, this energy is dependable and unwavering. Quantum energy can also be defined as a life source that connects to everything that exists in the Universe: From distant stars and galaxies to microscopic atoms within your body. As proven in quantum mechanics, everything has a quality of interconnected energy associated with it. All of this energy is indestructible as energy cannot be destroyed, it just changes form. From a humanistic standpoint, this energy is positive in nature as it exhibits no fear, anger or negativity – these fore mentioned negative traits are of man’s making (ego). This positive quantum energy can include our thoughts, actions and the basis for our existence. It is the common denominator for everything that exists – the true definition of God. Indestructible!

The ego defines the “material world” we were born into and True Nature defines the alternate Universe that exhibits our “True Reality”; everything pure and unadulterated. True Nature transcends all religion and even this world; again, its energy is constant and indestructible. Knowing this breeds clarity and a responsive quality to our minds.

So which polar opposite are you more aligned with?

ptolemaicI truly believe it is our goal as evolving humans to continually better ourselves from a spiritual and philosophical point of view.  This means living our lives with continued mindfulness; thus facilitating more compassion, awareness and responsiveness to life and within our surroundings. A common thread in personal growth and spiritual evolution is living with an open mind. This means as high functioning individuals we need to be able to question authority and confirm what we learn from societal, political and spiritual points of view is valid information that aligns more with our True Nature and less with blind faith and ego.

It brings me to the story of Italian philosopher and scientist, Giordano Bruno. Born in 1548, Bruno is famous for his theories in astronomy; especially his challenges to Roman Catholic Church doctrines regarding the Earth and its place within the Cosmos. He is celebrated for his cosmological theories, which went even further than the then-novel Copernican model, proposing that the stars we see at night were just distant suns surrounded by their own planets; and moreover the possibility that these planets could even foster life of their own. He also insisted that the Universe is in fact infinite, thus having no celestial body at its center. These theories were labeled heresy by Church authorities and in 1600 Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake for heresy. Who does that?

I cite this story and the story of Copernicus and Galileo because these were very strong, free, open minds in a very closed-minded society. Science and philosophy has evolved leaps and bounds over the last few centuries and yet certain organized religions have done little to amend their archaic beliefs today. I find that scary when you continue to see church doctrine and dogma interwoven in our schools, politics and community. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that religion is completely negative, but it does teach people to follow with blind faith instead of thinking for themselves. We need to think for ourselves if we ever want to evolve to the next level in human perception and responsiveness.

In order for humans to evolve spirituality and philosophically, we need to think with an open mind; free from the constraints of dogma and doctrine. Living and learning is an evolutionary process of facing challenges, gaining knowledge from our mistakes, questioning everything and thus being a product of maturity and wisdom from such experiences. We have to remain receptive to new ideas and always open to change on a daily basis. The theories that rankled the Catholic Church in the 1600s was the idea that God and his human minions were not the center of the Universe. I think no matter what we have proven scientifically over the centuries, we still have problems accepting that the world does not revolve around us. We are not the center of the Universe; we are merely part of something so immense, connective and beautiful it boggles the imagination.

It is imperative that we live with an open mind for it is the aperture of that open mind that connects us to this vast and impressive Responsive Universe.

John C. BaderI am a person who is a student and mentor on a voyage to self-discovery and enlightenment. My own personal awakening years ago birthed much of my philosophy. An awakening is an immediate or sometimes gradual realization of a reality different from what you always believed. I like to call this different reality a “True Reality.” Waking up from my ordinary life and seeing how things fit together has propelled me forward to fulfillment. This quality of knowing is like seeing 20/20 for the first time. This vision, the awareness, and the feelings sound like they would be jarring and intense, but my awakening felt like a pleasant windfall. I immediately knew how to act and react to challenges and stress. I had a new openness and clarity with life. Things were brighter and clearer. Even my most challenging problems seem to be palatable.

Still, knowing the right answers does not mean we always act skillfully and soulfully. Such feelings of energy and focus require diligence and determination. We need to center our body and minds in the present; sans of past and future; fear and fantasy: A endless task of mindfulness. I still struggle against ego, right and wrong; faced with the same challenges and conflicts that effect us all. My view points on religious dogma tend to get me in trouble with the religious right; my energy and drive continually needs to be rekindled. I am just a person. I had a forgettable adolescence. My first child was stillborn. I have struggled with addiction, marital problems, mediocrity, and utter isolation. But I am a person who has looked misery in the eye and asked the question, “Is there more to life than this?”

book coverSo, I am someone who has been there. We probably have more in common than we know. We both have stories to tell, some good and some bad. We have good friends and adversaries. We have faced success and loss. We are just working our way through this thing called life.  Our knowledge comes from our life experiences; our faith from knowing that we have in our possession the keys to unlocking the door to happiness. Do I have an answer for everything? Not a chance. As a mentor, I believe more in cultivating an awareness of environment and self that allows someone to discover answers on his or her own. My goal is to guide people in the right direction and pose questions that may spur a change in perspective and an awakening. I don’t believe, like many organized religions, that truth is one thing, that it is recorded as the word of God, and that the word is fixed and unchanging.  I believe we all have pure wisdom inside each of us. The goal is finding our inner voice that connects to our True Nature, thus leading us down the evolutionary path of self-discovery.

That is why I wrote the Responsive Universe – Illumination of the Nine Mandalas. Let this book be proof that karma, meditation and positive energy can lead to a better life – that if we yearn for betterment and meditate on our dreams – they will come true! This book of nine mandalas or chapters is my awakening. But it is more than that. I took this knowledge gained through self-discovery and compared it with the knowledge of great writers, philosophers and spiritual leaders like Joseph Campbell and the Dalai Lama. I realized my thoughts and ideas were not that abstract. I realized that science could bridge spirituality and that we are all connected at the sub-atomic level – our very thoughts, actions and reactions changing the fabric of the Universe.

Please, join me on an adventure in Self-Discovery….

book coverPART II

I feel like there has been this gap or hole in the collective narrative that is wellness books; especially books on spirituality. We see plenty of self-help books on the shelves talking about what we need to do to be happier people. How do we achieve happiness? God knows there is plenty of that. In my own spiritual quest I have been just as interested in the how of enlightenment and also the WHY of enlightenment.  There are plenty of books to teach us how to be happier. But what about the mechanics behind such ideas? I have never been a proponent of blind faith and that is why the Bible is not on my shelf of favorite self-help books. I like to know the science and reasoning behind things like karma, God and the afterlife.  I think there is this global thirst to know and believe in God – Yet for me personally, organized religion continues to fall short with answers to the biggest questions of why… Why do we suffer? Why do we exist? where do we go when we die? WHY?

So, in researching and writing the Responsive Universe – Illumination of the Nine Mandalas, I worked diligently to discuss topics of spirituality, God, human origin, karma and meditation and also the science behind such ideas. Take the concept of an afterlife: Can Science Prove there is an Afterlife is one of my most popular blog posts. Why? Because blind faith is just not enough for some people.  People want to know that science can prove we live on in some facet after death. It is more reassuring, especially for those that are educated and awake to the wonders of the Cosmos. It is a big place out there in the Universe and science is now beginning to explain our connections to this vast and impressive quantum Universe.

So, the goal of the Responsive Universe is to explain our most enduring questions with answers based more on science and less on conjecture. Couple that with helpful meditations and insightful daily life practices; and I have taken this book to another level with empowering steps to find happiness and understanding within this Responsive Universe.  The Responsive Universe is a unique book: It is approachable and understandable; and yet it is intelligent and philosophical in nature.  In the RU I am not afraid to question religious authority. In the RU we tackle situations of loss, dealing with our past as well as God and positive energy.  Each chapter builds on the next as we journey through this Mandala of life.

Who should read this book? Anyone that has questions about life that are not being answered by conventional religion and daily life. If you are interested in Buddhism or how science explains God and our place within the Cosmos; this book is for you! A reborn christian may not like this book – its ideas and premise will threaten their forged dogmatic views. Nothing is more scary than having your belief systems questioned. Yet it is fear and guilt that holds us from true self-discovery. What if I told you that you do not need religion to be self-actualized. What if I told you God and everything you need is inside your being; your True Nature. So, for the silent majority out there that is looking for more; that sees the world as vast and connective, then this book will connect you to something more – something larger: A Responsive Universe…
